Promoting the Contemporary Retelling of Stories: How can I change the negative perceptions around fanfiction and fandom communities?

Negative Perceptions:

1) fanfiction has a stereotypical LGBTQ+ representation to the general public

2) people within the fandom community only create bad art.

3) It has been “othered” by mass media for a very long time(Duffett, 2013).

What this project aims to CHANGE:

1) rebrand fanfiction as telling alternate stories of the characters we love, rather than simply using original characters for simplistic portrayals such as sexual content.

2) create a safe space for new writers to make bad art, create a space where you can be bad and get better.
